what is a stock form
the form in which a product can be bought and stored ready for use
what can paper be supplied in
-ply: layered sheets, often in rolls
-rolls: used for print industry for high volume printing such as books or newspapers
-sheets: used for office and domestic use -> digital printing and art supplies. can be supplied in many colours
what is paper measured in
grams per square meter
examples of binding methods
- saddle stitch binding: thin books or notebooks. Threads or stables bind paper together: fast and cheap method for mass production
- section sewn binding: printed, folded sheets sewn together to produce a high quality and secure form of binding. hard back books
- perfect binding: softcover books. Pages are folded and glued into cover sheet to form spine
- comb/spiral binding
side binder: durable, plastic spine bars which slide over the edges of a stack of paper to hold it together
Fasteners
-split pin/paper fastener: pin is placed into a punched hole of sheets, brass legs then separated
- binder clip: metal clip holding sheets of paper together
-staple: durable metal fastener used with a stapler to attach sheets. heavy duty staples secure cardboard packaging
- paper clip: steel wire bent into a loop, creating two tongues.
what are seals
they are used to bond paper or cards, making envelops or packages secure or tamper-proof
what are fasteners
temporary ways of attaching paper and card together
what are binding methods used for
used to hold together larger quantities of paper such as a brochure, book or presentation document
examples of seals
- tamper-proof sticker: labels that self destruct when peeled, used for valuable packages
- peel and seal envelope: peel off strip to reveal adhesive and seal envelope shut
- wax seal: dot of melted wax used to seal paper. pattern or crest can be pressed onto wax as a form of identity
- gummed envelope: water soluble glue
