stochiometry Flashcards
what is the difference between empirical and molecular formula
empirical is the simplified formula, simplest whole number ratio of the different atoms or ions in a compound while molecular shows all of the atoms, the number and type of different atoms in one molecule
what is meant by relative atomic mass
the average mass of teh isotopes of an element compared to the 1/12 th of the mass of an atom of carbon 12
what is meant by relative molecular mass
the sum of the relative atomic masses relative formula mass, Mr will be used for ionic compounds
what is a mol
a unit of amount of substance and that one mole contains 6.02 * 1023 particles, this is avogadro constant
what is the formula for moles
moles= mass/ mr
what is percentage yield + formula
The amount of useful product produced by a reaction expressed as a percentage.
(actual yield/ theoretical yield)×100
formula for number of moles in terms of gas
volume of gas/ 24
how do you convert between dm and cm cubed
dm- cm = *1000
cm-dm = /1000
what is the limiting reactant
The reactant in a chemical reaction that runs out first and therefore causes the reaction to start to slow down.
percentage purity formula
(mass of pure product/mass of impure product)×100
number of moles in terms of concentration
concentration (mol/dm3) * volume (dm3)
what are the possible units for concentration
g/dm3 or mol/dm3
whats the formula for concentration in g/dm3
mass (g) / volume (dm3)
how do you convert mol/dm3 to g/dm3
you multiply the concentration in mol/dm3 by the MR
what is the atomic number
number of protons
