Neonatal complications of chlamydia infection during pregnancy?

A
  1. Ophthalmia neonatorum (presents within 1st month of life) –> Tx: Erythromycin 50mg/kg
  2. Neonatal pneumonia (atypical)

A

[1st line] High vaginal swab –> For NAAT (Note: Chlamydia is hard to grow on media as obligate anaerobe)

[2nd line] First-pass urine

Treatment for chlamydia in both pregnancy and normal?

A

Normal:
1) Doxycycline 100mg BD for 7 days

Pregnancy:
1) Azithromycin 1 g orally for one day, then 500mg orally once daily for two days
