Interfacing is
a piece of fabric used in btw an area of a garment/garment, btw the inside & outside of an area of a garment to make it rigid, for stiffening, reinforcing & shape retention
E.g collar, sleeve, band, corset, bra
Appliqué is
a method of attaching a pice of fabric onto a garment.
It is a decorative method of applying piece/patches of fabric that are of diff. shapes & pattern onto another fabric for mending or decoration.
Appliqué is a seperate piece of fabric
Edge stitching is the
top stitch/top sow to the edge of the fabric.
It is a line of stitches used to neaten an edge/seam or stitch around the edge of a facing to keep it nice, flat and looking professional.
It is used along necklines, hemlines and along folds in a fabric e.g collar
Patchwork is
When pieces of fabric are cut, joined together to make a full fabric which is then used to make a garment.
An article made by joining pieces/scraps of fabrics together.
Can be used to make bags, fancy skirts etc
Patching is
the replacement or mending of a torn/worn out layer of an article with a piece of fabric.
Sewing notions are
Embellishments, accessories and trimmings.
Are items other than equip., tools & fabrics require to make sewing products.
E.g thread, fastener, pad, lining, hook & eye, stone, interfacing, nets etc
Tall and heavy people should wear and avoid
Wear:
Clothes with diagonal lines, can wear both hor. & vert.
Wear soft fabrics, dull/gray color. Medium weight fabric that drapes nicely.
Avoid :
Clothes with large patterns
Avoid crisp and shiny fabric
Short and slender, Wear and Avoid
Wear:
Wear vertical lines to look fatter.
Should look for illusions in their clothing.
Their jacket should always be waist length.
Avoid:
Avoid coarse and heavy fabrics, it might overpower their figure
Short and Plump
Look for vertical lines to make them look taller.
Should wear dull & soft fabric
Should avoid heavy, crisp, coarse and shiny fabric
Heavy/Large Hips
Avoid heavy, tight straight skirt
Avoid jacket over blouses & peplones.
Avoid color contrast on hip line
A black skirt & a light bodice will deemphasize hips
Skirts shaping from waist (gathers) should be used.
Small waist & bust
Look for styles with gathers beneath the bust.
Should wear a like skirt, ft and flare dress.
Should add dimension to the chest; bows and ruffles or highlight the arms, sleeveless styles
Tall & Thin
Should avoid straight skirt, princess lines, tight fitting bodice.
Make good use of gathered skirt and wide belts
