Dexamethasone: MOA, dose?
A
Synthetic steroid; (used in airway edema, PONV prevention, allergic rxns)
Glucocorticoid agonist; ↓inflammation by controlling rate of inflammatory protein synthesis, suppressing migration of inflammatory cells; (anti-emetic properties)
Has more extended duration of action than hydrocortisone
Adrenal suppression, psychosis, insomnia, vertigo, myopathy, osteoporosis, delayed wound healing, hyperglycemia
