STERN ATTACK THEORY (CF-7) Flashcards
STERN DISADVANTAGES
Allows deeper airspace penetration by the target
Sterns require the fighter to have a speed advantage on the target, so it may not be a viable option on a high speed target.
TYPES OF STERN INTX
HORIZONTAL / COMBINATION / VERTICAL
Hot Aspect Stern Intercepts (H-16AA)
If your initial cutoff vector has not established proper offset by 40 miles, hot aspect sterns may require aggressive maneuvering to achieve offset and avoid a cutoff-like position directly in front of the target
155 RULE
To simplify the chart and to determine the turn required at 30nm—remember the 155 rule. Just subtract the AA from 155 and you get the ATA required to hit the turn point.
145 RULE
For flank aspect (12-15), utilize the 145 rule at 20nm, which works just like the 155 rule, if you failed to convert to stern geometry at 30nm.
