- to see how stereotypes affect test performance in afroamericanos
- 114 black and white undergraduates took a verbal test under different conditions. the diagnostic condition stated “ro determine your verbal abilities and limitations” and the non diagnostic condition “to understand the psychological factores involved in solving verbal problems”
- african americans preformed worse than their whites counterparts in the diagnostic condition, while their performance equaled the white participants in the control. a second study was performed. showing that activating stereotype threat (by stating their race) decreased the performance of black participants
- awareness of a negative stereotype leads to spotlight anxiety, that may decrease performance
