stem fair script Flashcards
intro
Words can heavily impact our thoughts, opinions and especially our memory. Suggestions and opinions can greatly influence, this is why false memories are created.
question
Our question: Do persistent vocalized suggestions alter the reliability of a person’s memory?
hypnothesis
In which we thought: Yes, if one receives persistent vocalized suggestions before test taking then it will decrease the reliability of their memory.
variables
In our experiment, our independent variable is vocalized suggestions, and for our dependent variable, we measured the reliability of a person’s memory.
2 tests
As you were informed, we had 2 different tests: a yes and no test and a description test.
yes/no test data
These 2 graphs show the Yes and No test averages of each trial, and the averages between the control and experimental group. You can see that in trials 1 and 3, the experimental group did relatively better than the control group, and overall the experimental groups scored a higher average.
description test data
The other 2 graphs are the results of the description test. Again, the experimental group did slightly better than the control group in terms of details. And although there isn’t much of a difference, the experimental groups’ average is about 2% higher than the control groups’.
future app intro
In the future, if I were to investigate further into this topic, I would like to explore the reliability of a witness’s memory.
future app
It would be a similar format to this experiment, but instead of the participants examining a picture, I would change it to a video. Another thing that I would change would be the questions. We used a yes and no test and a description test for this experiment, but in the future I would like to ask more diverse questions like: “What time was it?” or “Who was there?”
