Bacterial Vaginosis
Not an STD but predisposes
imbalance of bacteria
multiple sex partners, douching
abstinence, not having multiple partners, not douching
pregnant women: low birth weight, premature
increases chance of HIV, other STDs like chlamidia and gonorrhea, PID
Chlamidia
Damages repro system, can cause infertility and ectopic pregnancy
Not have vaginal, anal or oral sex
Reduction: monogamy, condoms
Test every year
No symptoms or burning, discharge
Repeat is common, increases chance of HIV, other STDs
Medication: antibiotics
Genital Herpes
Virus
Anal, vag or oral sex
Fluids in sore carry virus
Can spread through skin
Neonatal herpes can be deadly and cause miscarriage
Blisters
No cure, but meds can shorten or prevent outbreaks
Transfer through touch to other parts of your body, ie. eyes
Gonorrhea
Very common 15-24 Can transmit to baby during delivery Urine test or swabs Dual therapy for Chlamidia and Gonorrhea Anti microbial gonorrhea presents treatment challenge--quinolone resistant so no longer recommended Cephalosporin is recommended
Human papilomavirus (HPV)
Most common STD in US
most people get it
Can cause cervical and other cancers of vulva, vagina, penis or anus.
Also genital warts
VACCINATION all boys girl 11-12
Catch up vaccines through 21M and 26F
HPV cervical cancer Screening only in 30+ F
Protection
Abstinence Tested beforehand Monogamy Vaccines HPV and Hep B Avoid alcohol and drugs Condom
