Body Systems Flashcards
Integumentary
Hair, skin, nails, sweat, exocrine glands
Skeletal
Bones supporting body
Nervous
Collects and processes information from the senses via nerves and the brain and tells the muscles to contract to cause physical actions
Cardiovascular/Circulatory System
Circulates blood via heart, arteries and veins
Also Lymphatic system, which circulates lymph (returns filtered blood)
Endocrine
Hormones enable chemical communication within the bocy
Muscular
Enables body to move using muscles
CNS
Brain and spinal cord
Peripheral Nervous System
All parts outside the brain and spinal cord
Cranial and spinal nerves
Communication lines between CNS and body
Sensory (Afferent) division
Somatic and visceral nerve fibers
Motor (Efferent) division
Motor Nerve fibers
Autonomic nervous system
Sympathetic
Parasympathetic
division of the PNS that includes all of the involuntary efferent neurons. Visceral motor (involuntary)
Sympathetic: fight or flight, increases HR, breathing, adrenaline and stress hormones
Parasympathetic: rest and digest when body is relaxed. Decreases all of above.Conservation.
Somatic nervous system
division of the PNS that includes all of the voluntary efferent neurons. Somatic motor (voluntary)
Lymphatic system
Lymphatic vessels carry lymph
Provides accessory return route for blood
Defense for immune system
Digestive system
Upper GI tract: liver, esophogus, stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, omentum, spleen
Lower GI tract: small intestine, large intestine (colon)
Endocrine System
Hypothalamus Pineal gland Pituitary Thyroid Thymus Pancreas
