stats tests Flashcards
1
Q
criteria for using Chi-squared test
A
- large sample size
- discrete data categories (yes/no, heads/tails, red/blue)
- using raw counts (not % or rates)
- comparison of experimental(observed)+theoretical(expected) results
2
Q
what is chi-squared used for in genetics
A
determine whether observed genetic ratios are sig diff from expected, and whether the diff is due to chance/smth else
3
Q
when do you accept H0 in chi-squared test
A
when x^2 value is LOWER than critical value at 5% sig level
suggests diff between observed+expected value due to chance
4
Q
t test used for (selection+evolution)
A
compare mean values of 2 datasets
determine whether diff between means is sig/due to chance
5
Q
criteria for t test
A
-data continuous+normally distributed
- variance of populations equal
- samples are independent of each other
