Statistical Testing Flashcards
1
Q
What is the purpose of Statistical testing?
A
- to determine if what has been discovered is significant
2
Q
What is the Sign Test?
A
- A simple statistical test to test for a difference in nominal (categorical) data when the same pps have been tested in both conditions (repeated measures design)
3
Q
What is the accepted Probability in Psychology?
A
- The accepted level of probability in psychology is 5% (p=0.05). Even if we find a significant difference or relationship within the data, there is still up to 5% probability that it could have occurred by chance
4
Q
What is the Critical Value to be achieved for Significance?
A
- Value to be achieved for significance. Found in a table of critical values, we need to know N (number of pps), probability level (5%) and whether the test is one-tailed or two-tailed
5
Q
What is S and how do you calculate it?
A
- S is the is the number of the less frequent sign
