States of matter properties Flashcards
What are the properties in a solid?
Regular arrangement (the particles are arranged in a regular pattern and are closely packed together)
The particles vibrate about a fixed position
Very close (so the particles have strong forces of attraction between them which keep them together)
What are the properties in a liquid?
Close (the particles mostly touch but not fully)
Less dense that solids.
Force of attraction is weaker than solids
The particles can move around each other.
The particles are arranged randomly.
What are the properties in a gas?
The particles in a gas move randomly at high speeds in all directions.
Randomly arranged and far apart (the particles are far away from each other, do not touch and there aren’t forces forces of attraction between them)
What does kentic energy stand for?
Movement
True or False: Do solids have the least kentic energy?
True
True or False: Do liquids have the most kentic energy?
False even though liquids have more kentic energy than solids they do not have the most kentic energy
True or False: Do gases have the most kentic energy?
True
