Q

During a change of state, what happens to the temperature of the particles?

A

It remains constant as the heat energy is absorbed in the state change

Q

When a solid is heated, why does temperature remain constant during state change?

A

Because when heated the particles gain energy, however this energy is needed to overcome the forces holding the particles together, so the temperature remains constant. Once all forces are broken, the temperature will increase again
