States of Matter Flashcards
What are the 3 states of matter?
Solid,liquid and gas.
How are solid arranged?
They are arranged in a fixed proportion and are held together where they can’t move and only vibrate.
How are liquids arranged?
Liquids have to be TOUCHING but they have to be separate and not in an arranged shape. They can fit the shape of a container.
How are gas arranged?
The can move freely where ever they want at any point they like.
What is the change called when a solid turns into liquid?
Melting.
What is the change called when a liquid turns into a gas?
Evaporation.
What is the change called when a gas turns into liquid?
Condensation.
What is the change called when a liquid turns into a solid?
Freezing.
What does aq stand for?
Aqueous.
What is it called when a solid turns into a gas?
Sublimation.
What is it called when a gas turns into a solid?
Deposition.
How to predict the state of matter?
A really good trick

When a liquid is changing into a solid, what is in between the particles that is getting stronger?
The forces.
When a substance is heated, what is absorbed by the particles causing the temperature to increase?
The forces.
What is the state of a substance if the temperature is below both the melting point and the boiling point?
Solid.
