Metals and non Metals Flashcards
What is one of the key features of metals and non metals?
Metals form positive ions when they react and non-metals don’t form ions or they just form negative ions.
What group 1 called?
The alkali metals.
What is group 7 called?
The halogens.
What is group 0 called?
The noble gases.
What are the physical properties of metals?
Metallic bonding-a special bond only metals have.
Malleable-This means they can be bent easily without snapping.
Great conductors of heat and electricity.
High melting and bonding point.
shiny.
What are the physical properties of non metals?
Dull in colour.
Brittle-This means they easily break (like the carbon in your pencil).
Low melting and boiling points.
Where are the transition metals?
They are found in the centre of the periodic table.
What are some of the properties that transition metals have?
They can form more than one ion.
They make really good catalysts.
What is a catalysts?
A catalysts is a substance which increases the rate of chemical reaction without being changed or used up in the reaction.
