waking consciousness
means we are awake and aware of our thoughts emotions and perceptions
automatic processing
involves initiating activities and carrying them out without much effort
effortful/controlled processing

can be natural, can also be deliberate
circadian rhythm
occur on 24 hr cycle and include sleep and wakefulness
biological clock
can be altered by artificial light

if bodies given free rein, tend more towards 25 hr clock
