A psychologist and philosopher who is known for the James-Lange Theory of Emotion, which states that an emotion is the mind’s interpretation of certain processes that occur in response to stimuli.
Sigmund Freud
The Father of Psychoanalysis, a method for treating people by talking (specific method=free association, where the patient talks about whatever thoughts come to his/her mind, and he/she is also encouraged to talk about wishes, fears, and dreams) The purpose of this is for the analyst to help the patient understand the unconscious conflicts of their psychological problem, and help him/her understand how to fix their problems.
One of Freud’s most important contributions is the idea that the subconscious is key understanding conscious thoughts and behavior, and dreams are the only way to understand the subconscious.
Ernest Hilgard
An American psychologist professor at Stanford University who became famous in the 1950s for his research on hypnosis dissociation theory of split consciousness. (Ex: hypnotized part of brain and an independent observer which works independently)
