2002 transitional government signed new cease fire after 14th round of peace talks but not sworn in until 2004
2011- Al Shabab controlled southern and central Somalia and parts of capital and enforced harsh Sharia law + claim links toAl Quaida
now designated a terrorist country by multiple states eg Aus and Canada
transitional government is restricted to small enclave in the capital
