Stars on Dr. Martin's slides Flashcards
What level do we find blood pressure control?
arterioles
How can AVMs be caused by an arterial aneurysm?
it can rupture into a nearby vein
Who is most susceptible to fibromuscular dysplasia?
young women
*string of beads due to abnormal smooth m. deposition
What qualifies someone with malignant HTN?
BP >200/>120
*renal failure, retinal hemorrhages, papilledema
Arterial wall response to injury
- chronic endothelial injury
- endothelial dysfunction
- macrophage activation, smooth m. recruitment
- macrophages and smooth muscle cells engulf lipid (foam cells, fatty streaks)
- smooth muscle proliferation, collagen, and other ECM depiction, extracellular lipid
Arthersclerosis weakens what part of the media? HTN? tertiary sphyilis?
a. inner media
b. outer media
c. outer media
What is obliterative endarteritis?
characteristic of tertiary syphilis –> predilection for small vessels (including vasa vasorum of thoracic aorta) –> ischemic injury of the aortic media and aneurysmal dilation (can can involve aortic valve regurgitation)
AAA is typically due to? TAA?
a. atherosclerosis
b. HTN
What is the origin of a gloms tumor (glomangioma, paraganglioma)?
smooth muscle cells
