Starred Lecture Items L13 Flashcards
how can you differentiate between claw hand and hand of benediction
benediction: try to make a fist and they extend actively
claw: resting position, passive position
what nerves are involved:
wrist drop
claw hand
hand of benediction
DR. CUMA
drop=radial
claw=ulnar
ape/hand of benediction= median
recovery of proximal vs distal peripheral nerve damage
proximal will take longer to heal
dorsal compartment 1 muscles
EPB, APL; thumb extension, flexion, and abduction lost= dequervain’s syndrome
dorsal compartment 2 muscles
ECRB, ECRL
dorsal compartment 3 muscles
EPL, goes around listers tubercle, epl rupture= cant straighten thumb
dorsal compartment 4 muscles
ED, EI; rupture=lose ability to straighten finger?????
dorsal compartment 5 muscles
EDM
dorsal compartment 6 muscles
ECU; popping /snapping when turning wrist
extensor hood central tendon fxn
extend PIP joint
extensor hood lateral band fxn
extend DIP joint
extensor hood oblique retinacular ligament fxn
PIP extension elongates the ORL while passively extending DIP
DIP flexion elongates ORL while passively flexing PIP
extensor hood terminal tendon fxn
extends DIP joint
difference between contracture vs lag
contracture: cannot be straightened
lag: cannot be actively lifted but can be passively straightened
swan neck deformity and cause
PIP joint hyperextension and DIP joint flexion
cause: damage to terminal tendon/ direct blow to DIP joint while digit is extended, progressive weakening of DIP joint (RA)
