Standardized examination part 1 Flashcards
ICF structure and function
Strength, ROM, endurance and sensory function
ICF activity/limitation
Gait speed, fall risk (DGI) and fall risk (FGA)
ICF participation
Disability score, SF 36
Observational Analysis
Observing performance of task
Task analysis/ essential components of task
Can be made more objective using measurements such as time, degrees of ROM, and segmenting task into specific portions
Standardized Measures nominal
yes/no answers, male/female/other, hand dominance, etc
Ordinal
ranked categories or scoring
interval
has imposed numerical scale without a zero (- and + values)
ratio
has an absolute zero (like temperature or pain)
Floor Effect
Inability of test to measure or discriminate below a certain point
Items may be too difficult
Standing balance or gait test for someone who cannot stand independently
Difficult to show progress, score will remain low even if patient is improving
Ceiling Effect
Inadequacy of test to measure to ability
Items are too easy
Cannot demonstrate progress because maximum or high score is attained initially
Problem when using tests for geriatric population with younger adults
Minimal Detectable Change
Minimal amount of change outside of error that reflects true change between two time points
Unique to each assessment tool. Make sure your reference!
