STAINING Flashcards
Giving color for better vizualization
Staining
Various constituents of the tissues are studied through chemical reactions
Histochemical staining
Combination of immunologic and histochemical techniques
Immunohistochemical staining
Tissue contituents are demonstrated in sections by direct interaction with dye
Histological staining
According to the use of mordant: the action of the dye is intensified by adding another agent
Indirect staining
According to the resultant color: Resultant color is thesame as the color of the dye itself
Orthochromatic staining
According to the resultant color: demonstrated by colorless solutions of metallic salts producing an opaque, black deposit on the surface
Metallic impregnation
According to the resultant color: staining with the color that is different from that of the stain itself
Metachromatic staining
According to the use of mordant: giving color to the sections using aqueous or alcoholic dye solution
Direct staining
According to the use of decolorizer: tissue is first overstained and decolorized until the desired intensity of color is attained
Regressive staining
According to the use of decolorizer: definite sequence, stain is applied until the desired intensity of color is attained
Progressive staining
Stands out as a dark area on a light background
Positive staining
Appear light on a dark background
Negative staining
Application of different color or stain to provide contrast and background
Counterstaining
Done by injecting the dye into any parts of the animal body
Intravital stain
