Stages of learning Flashcards
Define cognitive learning
many mistakes are made, movement may lack coordination and are slow, trial and error used to learn, inconsistent success, learns through visual demonstratio
extrinsic feedback required, feedback should be positive
define associative learning
motor programmes are starting to be formed, movement is smoother and more co-ordinated, some performers never move past this stage, fewer errors made
feedback becomes more internal as kinaesthesis is developed, extrinsic feedback is still required, performer begins to use knowledge of performance
define autonomous learning
motor programmes are formed, tasks are performed with little conscious thought, consistent, fluid and aesthetically pleasing, practice must continue to stay in this phase
performer uses intrinsic feedback, extrinsic feedback can be negative, performer uses knowledge of performance
explain what a learning plateau is
- the performer is in the cognitive phase so their success rate will be low
- the performer practises, there is a sharp increase in his success rate - they enter associative phase
- the performer reaches a plateau. performance levels are maintained and no improvement showed
- the performer has a dip in success rate as there is a lack of motivation. they need to re-motivate with a new task
