define skill
the learned ability to bring about predetermined results with the minimum outlay of time, energy or both
what brings about a skilled performance
A- aesthetically pleasing

describe the open and closed skills
open - one that is affected by the sporting environment. the performer has to make decisions in response to their surroundings
closed - involves less decision making because it has a predictable enviroment. the performer can take their time to execute the skill
describe fine and gross skills
fine - has small, delicate movements
gross - uses large muscle group movements
describe self and externally paced skills
self-paced - is at the control of the performer. the rate of execution is decided before execution
externally-paced - is controlled by factors out of control of the performer, who may have to react to external conditions i.e games activities
describe the continuity skills
discrete - has a short time span and a clear beginning and end
serial - has several discrete elements which are put together
continuous - has no clear beginning or end
describe the organisation skills
low organisation - can be broken down into parts, or subroutines
high organisation - is hard to break down since its fast in its execution
describe the complexity continuum
complex skill - high level of decision making and has a large cognitive or thinking element to it
simple - have a limited amount of information to process. the skill has a smaller cognitive element
