what is social learning : observational learning
A
learning through watching others and copying their actions
helps to form a mental picture
more effective if the person who is demonstrating is a significant other

- attention - coach ensures performer concentrates on the model
coach points out the key cues in demonstrations (verbal guidance)
model should be attractive to the performer e.g a role model
the model needs to be accurate

- retention - storing information
demonstration should be repeated
clear image created through mental rehearsal
attempt the skill as soon as possible
break the skill down into chunks
dont overload verbal guidance

- motor reproduction - copying the demonstration
the performer must be physically and mentally able to complete the model
gradually progress from easy to complex - the task must be at the performers level
