Turckman and Jensen 5 stages of Group Development: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning.
- forming: members acquainted and attempt to establish ground rules
- storming: conflict as group members resist the control of the group leaders.
- norming: group accepts the group, rules and roles, better relationships, work together to achieve group goals.
- performing: members accepted each other’s strengths, weaknesses and are clear about heir roles and focused on getting the job done.
- adjourning: group disbands because the group’s goals have been met or members have left.

Communication Networks
pattern of communication between group members or between positions or departments in an organization.

Centralized Networks: all communication must pass through a central person or position (wheel, chain, Y).
- better for simple tasks
- the central person is satisfied, but…

Decentralized Networks: informtion flows more freely between members w/o going through a central person (the circle, all-channel).
- better for complex tasks because they provide greater flexibility and exchange of ideas.
- …greater satisfaction of all participants is higher with decentralized networks.
