Stage of data analysis Flashcards
The stages of data analysis
Identify the need Define the scope Identifying potential sources Source and select information Select the most appropriate tools Process and analyse data Record and store information Share results
Identify the need
Identifying the need is all about what we are trying to find out, what information is needed and setting objectives.
Define the scope
Defining the scope refers to the data you would need to answer your questions, deciding what to measure such as budget, timescale, constraints, content and how to measure it.
Identifying potential sources
Identifying potential sources refers to identifying sources of information you could use and data sets already available. Examples are sales figures and customer surveys.
Source and select information
Source and selecting information excludes unsuitable information and verifies the sources are valid and trustworthy, accurate and reliable.
Select the most appropriate tools
Selecting the most appropriate tools refers to the number of ways information can be presented. Examples are charts, graph, trend analysis and regression.
Process and analyse data
Process and analyse data relates to manipulating data in detail to answer the question(s) set out at the start. Examples include sort and filter and analyse trends.
Record and store information
The record and store information stage is all about interpreting and recording about your results. If your interpretation of the data holds up under all of the questions set out, then you have a productive conclusion.
