At what age is SRMA usually seen?
A
young dogs, <2 years old

What breeds are overrepresented?
A
Boxer
Bernese mountaindog
Beagles

What are the clinical signs of SRMA?
A
Insidous onset
Lethargy, anorexia, pyrexia –>
Gingerly walkning, stiffness and pain
Diffuse or localized pain in neck

How do you confirm diagnosis of SRMA?
A
Exclude other spinal diseases
CSF

Q
What does CSF show in SRMA usually?
A
Neutrophilic pleocytosis with an increased protein level
Chronic cases: mononuclear cells

Treatment?
A
Prednisolone 6 months
If relapse - increase dose or add second immunosuppressant
Relapses are more difficult to treat, hence tapering immunosuppressants slowly is important
