What are Open skills

A

Open skills are seen in sports such as netball and football, where the situation is always changing. The player has to continually adapt to the situation. E.g. defending in football

What are closed skills

A

Take place in a stable, predictable environment. Skills are not affected by the environment. They follow set patterns and have a clear beginning and end. E.g. penalty in football, free-throw in rugby

What is a basic skill

A

A skill that a player finds easy and needs little concentration. E.g. chest pass in netball/basketball

What is a complex skill

A

Needs the players full concentration and attention. Technically difficult to perform. Need to be practiced over and over again so they become easier. E.g. penalty in football, smash in tennis

What is a low organisation skill

A

A skill which has a clear, simple phases or parts. They can usually be broken down into phases and practice separately to improve. E.g. set shot in basketball

A

A skill that has a lot of complicated phases or parts. You cannot break down phases and they are linked closely together e.g. somersault in trampolining
