What is stress?
The body’s way of responding to a demand that requires a mental adjustment.
What is pressure?
The effect of playing on performance.
What is fatigue?
A state of extreme tiredness.
What is motivation/arousal?
The desire to achieve something.
What is anxiety?
Feelings of nervousness or worry.
What is aggression?
A fierce determination to succeed.
How can your performance be affected by high motivation levels?
Can improve concentration so you focus on the appropriate skills or make correct decisions/Can make you try harder so you will run faster, jump higher, apply more force/Can increase effort levels when you are losing.
How can your performance be affected by high aggression levels?
May apply more force to a tackle increasing chance of winning the ball/Can make you try harder so you will run faster, jump higher, apply more force/Could become over-aggressive and perform a dangerous tackle resulting in injury/Could become violent towards the opposition and be sent off or disqualified.
How can high anxiety levels affect performance?
Lack of confidence to try a difficult skill or take on a strong opponent/Could lose concentration causing inaccurate performance of a skill/Can cause lack of muscular control/Increased sweating that could loosen grip.
How can fatigue affect your performance?
Lack of concentration so you may make an incorrect decision/Perform with less strength causing less force to be applied to a shot, pass or jump/Less stamina so you may not be able to keep up with play throughout the competition/Could cause you to be substituted/Could cause injury.
