What is anxiety?
Feelings of nervousness or worry
What type of special diet might Ben use?
High-protein diet or carbohydrate loading
What is a high-protein diet?
When meals consist of lots of protein/The athlete may have between 4-6 meals a day.
What is the function of protein do?
Aids with muscle repair and muscle growth.
Where can you find protein?
Red meats, chicken, nuts.
What is carbohydrate loading?
When meals consist of lots of carbohydrates/such as pasta/around 7 days before the competition you will work maximally to burn off energy stores/the rest of the week you will train lightly and eats lots of carbohydrates/pasta party the night before competition/helps top up energy stores
What would be a good training method for Ben?
Weight training to improve muscular strength or endurance/Circuit training depending on the stations, which must focus on strength or flexibility.
Which social group may effect Ben’s participation?
Family or friends.
How could a social group effect participation?
Not providing encouragement/Not offering transport/Financial support/Encouraging him to do a different sport/Reinforcing negative stereotypes.
What is balance?
Maintaining equilibrium OR maintaining a centre of gravity over a base of support.
Why is balance important to Ben?
To make sure he doesn’t fall off the beam/fall over on the floor/doesn’t over rotate in the air/go off line when performing a cartwheel/fall over when performing a cartwheel/to lose points from the judges/performing the moving less accurately/losing the competition.
What are the two personality types?
Introvert and extrovert
Describe an introvert.
Shy/quiet/prefers to be on their own/timid/non-aggressive/suited to individual sports/
What sports might an introvert be suited to?
Long-distance running/single table tennis or badminton/Single athletic events such as shot put.
What sports might an extrovert be suited to?
Basketball/Football/Rugby/Team Games
Why might being an introvert cause problems for Ben?
Too shy to communicate with team-mates/To discuss the routine/Making friends to find a team for group competition/May not get on with team-mates/May not want to socialise with team-mates.

What is flexibility?
The range of motion around a joint
Why is flexibility important in gymnastics?
To be able to perform a move or technique to a high degree of quality. For example, good flexibility in your legs muscles and knee joints will allow you to fully extend your legs into a straight line during a cartwheel. Performing to a high quality will earn you more points from judges.
