Achievement motivation
The desire of an individual to achieve success.
Anxiety
A nervous feeling in response to a stressful feeling.
Attribution
Establishing that a particular result occurred as a result of another situation affecting it.
Biofeedback
Understanding the physiological symptoms of stress and how to control them.
Cognitive
Relating to the brain.
Learned helplessness
The inevitable feeling that failure will occur during a performance of a skill.
Motivation
The desire to do, or achieve something.
Outcome-orientated goals
Goals that are only concerned with the result (i.e. winning or losing).
Self-efficacy
The belief that an individual has concerning their ability to be successful when faced with certain situations.
Self-confidence
The belief that an individual has concerning their ability to perform successfully in sport.
Somatic
Relating to the body.
Stress
A reaction to a threatening stimulus or situation.
Task-oriented goals
Goals that are concerned with the level of success in particular tasks. They are not concerned with the outcome of an event.
Trait sports confidence
The enduring state of the performer, which involves their global belief in performing successfully in sport.
State sports confidence
A form of sports confidence which fluctuates depending on the various situations the performer is faced with.
