Positive transfer
When a previously learned skill has a beneficial effect on the learning of a new skill.
Negative transfer
When a previously learned skill has a detrimental effect on the learning of a new skill.
Bilateral transfer
The transfer of a skill from one side of the body to the opposite side.
Zero transfer
When a previously learned skill has no effect on the learning of a new skill.
Extrinsic
Comes from outside of a performer.
Positive feedback
Feedback following a successful performance with the aim to increase self-efficacy.
Negative feedback
Feedback following an unsuccessful performance, aiming to stop the occurrence of poor performance behaviours.
Knowledge of performance
Receiving information regarding the quality of the movement.
Knowledge of results
Provided extrinsically, enabling the performer to judge the success of their performance.
Perception
Refers to our interpretation of what the senses pick up.
Guidance
The method of assistance that the coach provides to aid the learning of different movement patterns.
Feedback
Information that is provided in relation to task performance.
Kinaesthetic
Involves detecting changes in body position and movement.

This occurs when no improvement in performance is made, with performance level remaining the same.
