Splanchology Flashcards
What is splanchology?
The study respiratory, digestive and uro-genital organs,
What are parenchymal?
Large organs formed by glandular tissue such as the liver.
What are the three layers in organs? List them from outside to inside.
Serosa
muscularis
mucosa
What is the function of glands?
Transport substances into body and transform them into specific secretions.
What types of glands are there and what are their features?
Exocrine glands - secrete outside or in natural cavity via excretory duct (saliva glands)
Endocrine glands - secrete inside body/blood/lymph or interstitual plasma. no excretory duct (thyroid)
Mixed - both endo and exocrine (pancreas)
What are the features of serousa or serous membranes?
- thin, smooth and transparent
- there are two layers = parietal and visceral
What is the difference between the pleura and the peritoneum?
The pleura is the serosa of the thoracic cavity and the peritoneum is the serosa of the the abdominal cavity.
What is the mesos?
Provides continuity between both parietal and visceral serous membranes for floating organs.
What is the tunica adventitia?
it is a layer that replaces the serosa of the viscera which is outside thoracic and abdominal cavities.
What is the tunica muscularis?
bundles of muscles with different orientation. generally made of smooth muscle.
What is the tunica mucosa?
Lining inside hollow organs. it is rich in connective tissue, blood and lymphatic networks.
