Spirometry Flashcards

1
Q

How do you initiate the procedure?

A
  1. introduce/identify/explain/ allergies/wash hands - “we’re going to do some spirometry with you today. This is a common test of how well your lungs are working and how well you can breathe in and out. Its used to diagnose certain conditions like asthma as well as assess their severity and any response to treatment. It will consist of blowing into a mouthpiece attached to a small device for at least 3 times and leaving 30 seconds between each attempt. We will discuss the results at the end of the procedure. We’re doing this to see how well your asthma is controlled before your surgery. Does this sound okay?”
  2. wash hands
