How do you initiate the procedure?
A
- introduce/identify/explain/ allergies/wash hands etc
2. check what oxygen has been prescribed on prescription chart

How do you prepare the equipment?
A
(situational management of type 2 resp failure)
- select venturi mask
- identify correct oxygen percentage and correct flow - 24%/blue + 2L/min or 28%/white + 4L/min
- connect tubing to an oxygen source and check flow before applying mask to patient - indicate a snug fit is needed
- check patient welfare
- document in patients notes

A
- monitor oxygen saturation with pulse oximetry
