Spirometry Flashcards
measures amount of air exhaled and how long it takes to exhale
spirometry
when a person takes in as deep a breath as possible and exhales as much air as can possibly be squeezed out
Vital Capacity (VC)
When patient exhales forcefully, as hard and fast as they can
Forced Vital Capacity (FVC)
Amount of air exhaled in one second (if maximal effort)
Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 Second (FEV1)
Flow rate at moment that air is going fastest during exhalations
Peak Flow
Rate of flow during expiration between 1st 1/4 and last 1/4 of air exhaled
Mid Maximal Expiratory Flow Rate (MMEF)
Predicted values are based on:
Race
Age
Sex
Height
When are results normal
FVC within 20% of predicted values
Each effort must be within how many % of each other?
5%
When do you do post-BD?
15 to 20 minutes after treatment is finished
