Spirometry Flashcards
1
Q
What is the normal FEV1/FVC Value?
A
0.75-0.80
75-80%
2
Q
What happens to the FEV1/FVC in obstructive lung disease?
A
FEV1/FVC is reduced <0.7
Because FEV1 is reduced to a greater extent than FVC.
3
Q
What happens to FEV1/FVC in restrictive lung disease?
A
Either stays the same or is increased
0.75-0.8 OR >0.8
FEV1 is still high BUT the FVC is dramatically reduced.
4
Q
How much is the FEV1 and FEV reduced in obstructive disease?
A
FEV1 - <80% of the normal.
FVC - slightly reduced but to a much lesser extent than FEV1.
5
Q
What are obstructive lung diseases?
A
CF Bronchiectasis Asthma COPD Emphysema
6
Q
What are restrictive lung diseases?
A
Pulmonary fibrosis Lobectomy Pulmonary oedema Occupational lung disease Obesity Pregnancy Skeletal deformities Motor neurone disease Guillain-Barre syndrome Myasthenia gravis
