A term used for diseases that cause irreversible lung fibrosis.

Radiotherapy

Which conditions can cause interstitial lung disease?
Systemic lupus erythematosus

What is fibrosis?
When elastic tissue is replaced with scar tissue that is stiff and doesn’t function properly
What is the investigation done to show interstitial lung disease?
High resolution CT - ground glass appearance
If unclear - biopsy and histology
What are the signs of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis?
SOB >3 months dry cough >50yrs Bibasal fine inspiratory crackles Finger clubbing
What type of hypersensitivity is hypersensitivity pneumonitis?
Type 3 hypersensitivity.
What does bronchioalveolar lavage in hypersensitivity pneumonitis show?
Increased lymphocyte count
Increased mast cell
What are the main causes of hypersensitivity pneumonitis?
Bird droppings
Mould on barley
Spores on hay
Mushrooms
How is hypersensitivity pneumonitis treated?
Remove cause
Steroids
What complications occur from asbestosis?
Fibrogenic
Oncogenic
