What is Falernum?
A sweet syrup used in Caribbean and tropical drinks. It contains flavors of almond, ginger and/or cloves, lime and sometimes vanilla or allspice. It is used in cocktails in a manner similar to orgeat syrup or can be drunk on the rocks. ## Footnote The syrup form can be alcoholic or nonalcoholic.
56
What is orgeat?
Orgeat syrup is a sweet syrup made from almonds, sugar, and rose water or orange flower water. It was, however, originally made with a barley-almond blend. It has a pronounced almond taste and is used to flavor many cocktails, perhaps the most famous of which is the Mai Tai.
57
What is genever?
The juniper-flavored national and traditional liquor of the Netherlands and Belgium, from which gin evolved. Traditional jenever is still very popular in the Netherlands, Belgium and nearby French and German regions. EU regulations specify that only liquor made in these two countries, two northern French departments and two German federal states can use the name jenever/genever/genièvre.
