Spine Trauma Flashcards
1
Q
Dislocation fracture
A
- Fracture of anterior, middle and posterior column
- Post surgical TLSO – increase healing, decrease pain, immobilize
2
Q
Chance Fracture (lap belt fracture)
A
- Fracture of middle and posterior column of spine and caused by flexion and distraction
- Immobilize, decrease pain, realign spine (TLSO #6)
3
Q
Compression fracture
A
- Fracture of anterior column of spine
- Hyperextension orthosis using 3 point pressure system
– Jewett or CASH
4
Q
Burst Fracture & treatment
A
- Fracture of anterior and middle column of spine
- Orthosis to increase intracavity pressure to offload spine; re-align spine; limit movement (TLSO #6)
5
Q
Odontoid or dens fracture
A
- Fracture of C2 odontoid
-Collar if stable (Fracture at tip)
-Halo if fracture at base of dens or extended into vertebral body
6
Q
Hangman fracture
A
- C2 fracture
- Hyperextension and distraction
- Fracture through bilateral pedicles; separates posterior neural arch from vertebral body
- HALO if unstable, CTO if stable
7
Q
Jefferson Fracture
A
-C1 fracture
- Hyperextension fracture or axial load
-unstable: separation of the lateral masses; ligament detachment – HALO
-Stable: intact transverse ligament and minimal displacement – CTO
8
Q
TLSO: posterior - superior
A
- 1” from spine of scapula (25 mm)
9
Q
TLSO: anterior - inferior
A
- Extend over pubis
- allow 90 degrees hip flexion
- 20 mm above top of thigh
10
Q
TLSO: lateral - superior
A
- 1.5” from axilla (38 mm)
11
Q
TLSO: posterior - inferior
A
- no more than 1” (25mm) from surface of chair
12
Q
TLSO: anterior - superior
A
- 1” below sternal notch (25 mm)
13
Q
Hip extension on brace
A
- Controls L5-S1
14
Q
TLSO: Sagittal - Coronal
A
- Knight-Taylor
- Limits flexion and extension and lateral flexion of thoracic and lumbar
15
Q
TLSO: Sagittal
A
- Taylor style
- Limits both flexion and extension with
