Spinal Cord tracts Flashcards
Tract that connects the spinal cord to the thalamus
spinothalamic tract
Tract that connects the spinal cord to the cerebellum
Dorsal spinocerebellar tract
Which tracts connects the cerebral cortex(brainstem) to the spinal cord
Lateral Corticospinal tract
The Dorsal Column carries the following sensory modalities
vibration, conscious proprioception (being aware of your body position) fine touch
Graphestesia
compiling touch information and translating that into numerical or word structure
stereognosia
ex. reaching into a bag and being able to know what you are grabbing (differentiation)
the first order neuron for all ascending systems is always the
dorsal root ganglian
dorsal column: information coming in from cervical and upper thoracic levels of the body will travel in to this tract (C2-T6)
Fasciculus cuneatus
dorsal column: information coming in from the lower thoracic, lumbar and sacral regions travel through this tract (T7-S5)
Fasciculus gracilis
Dorsal column: the first order neuron ascends to the medulla where it synapses on which second order neuron
nucleus cuneatus or nucleus gracilis
Dorsal column: the second axon crosses the midline, ascends to the thalamus and synapses on
a third order neuron that ascends to the cerebral Cortex
the nucleus cuneatus and the nucleus gracilis are (blank) to the side the information came in
ipsilateral (same side)
Dorsal Column: the thalamus and primary sensory cortex are (BLANK) to where the information came in
contralateral (opposite side)
the spinothalamic tract carries which sensory modality
laterally: pain and temperature
anteriorly: crude touch (touch but no fine detail)
