Spinal shock
transient period of reflex depression and flaccidity; can last from a few weeks to 6 months.
S/S of spinal shock
flaccidity, paralysis, areflexia, vasodilation (decrease BP and HR), decreased cardiac output, venous pooling
C1-C2 respiratory muscles

Cervical extensors
C3-C4 respiratory muscles
partial diaphragm
Scalene
levator scapulae
C6-C8 respiratory muscles
Diaphragm
pectoralis major and minor
SA
rhomboids
Lats
T1-T5 respiratory muscles
some intercostals
erector spinae
T6-T10 respiratory muscles
intercostals
abdominals
T11 and below
all of the preceding muscles
C1-C2 injury respiratory treatment
ventilator or phrenic nerve stimulator
C3-C4 injury respiratory treatment
ventilator in acute phase; can be weaned off
c6-c8 injury respiratory treatment
assisted coughing.
