He was an American spy. He had snuck into occupied New York City and spied on the British until he was captured.
He was famous for saying, “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country!”

Secret hiding places used to leave and pick up important information without requiring the spies to meet face to face.

A paper cutout placed that secret letters are meant to be read through. The British used it as a method of coding important messages.

Do we know the names of most of the Patriot spies?
No, most will never be known. However, their efforts contributed to the success of the American Revolution and helped secure the colonial independence.
