Procedure?
Patient centres their gaze on a designated, central point on a translucent screen
What was shown on the translucent screen?
Two signals; a word, picture or symbol
How long was the sign or picture on the translucent screen for?
1/10th of a second
Why was the sign or picture on the translucent screen on for a short period of time?
This didn’t allow central movement, it didn’t allow eye movement too
Right visual field used for?
When information was shown in the right visual field, participants could say it in speech or writing
Left visual field for?
When information was shown in the left visual field, participant would say they didn’t see anything but could point to it
Conclusion?
Tests show that the right hemisphere cannot “speak” or “write”
Ethics?
All fine
Validity?
May have over stated the difference
Sample; unrepresentative?
Unrepresentative to healthy brains
Ecological validity?
