Specialization of cells & Stem Cells Flashcards
1
Q
What are 4 functions Specialization cells
A
- Specialized cells are cells that can perform a specific function.
- Specialized cells have structural and functional differences that allows them to perform one job very well
- Specialized cells can look very different from each other and cell specialization involves change in form and function
- Plant and animal cells show specialization
2
Q
How do cells specialize
A
- The cell keeps dividing and start to changes in shape, contents and functions.
- ## Specialized cells have structural and functional differences that allows them to perform one job very well is called cellular differentiation
3
Q
What are stem cells
3 reason
A
- Stem cells are cells that don’t perform a specialization of a job
- Stem cells are undifferentiated. ( they havent decided on what kind of cell they want to be
- Stem cells can become any ell type depending on which parts of the DNA are turned on.
4
Q
The three types of Stem cells
A
- Embryonic Stem Cells (from the embryo early stages of cell division and can differentiated into any type of cell)
- Tissue (or Adult or Somatic) Stem Cells ( found in parts of the body like: bone marrow, umbilical cell that can only differentiated into certain cells mostly blood cells)
- Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (IPS) (Adult cell that can be reprogrammed to behave like embryonic stem cells)
