Cancer Flashcards
1
Q
What is unhealthy vs healthy cells
A
When a cell doesn’t follow the checkpoint of G1 for the energy/ nutrients, S is for DNA synthesis, G2 is to make sure the DNA copied correctly, M is to make sure the spindle fibres attached to the chromosomes. If the cell follows checkpoints the cells is healthy. If they don’t follow those checkpoint they are unhealthy and called cancer cells. Cancer cell don’t stay in interphase for long enough and also the cell pill up.

Q
The causes of cancer
A
- Environment factors can cause cancer (carcinogens), these factors can cause changes to DNA mutation
- The mutations can lead to the cell dying, or the cell survives and keeps growing and dividing
- Can affect cell division and the abnormal cells that are uncontrolled manner, forming cancerous tumours - Carcinogens includes:
cigarette smoking, UV radiation, x-rays, viruses, and industrial chemicals.
