Specialised Cells Flashcards
Multicellular organisms
Contain different types of cells
Specialised cells
Cells that can adapt their structure to their function
Egg cells
Contains nutrients in the cytoplasm
Has a haploid nucleus (23 chromosomes)
The membrane changes structure to stop any more sperm getting in
Function is to nourish the egg and carry the females DNA
Sperm cells
Long tail so it can swim to the egg
Lots of mitochondria in the middle of the cell to provide energy
Has an Acrosome at the head to store enzymes needed to digest its way through the eggs membrane
Haploid nucleus
Function is to transport the makes DNA
Cilliated Epithelial Cells
Moves materials
Lines the surface of organs
Function is to move substances along the surface of the tissue
