Specialised Cells Flashcards
Sperm cells
-middle section contains many mitochondria which release energy for respiration
-flagellum to swim faster/ greater distances
-digestive enzymes in acrosome to digest egg cell membrane
Egg cells
-haploid nucleus
-jelly coat which only the digestive enzymes in the sperms acrosome can digest and hardens when a sperm has entered
-large cytoplasm to supply nutrients if egg is fertilised
Red blood cell
-bioconcave shape to increase surface area so more oxygen can bind
-no nucleus so it’s able to contain more haemoglobin
Ciliated eptherial cells
-move egg along the Fallopian tube
-move mucus along air pipe
Root hair cell
-many mitochondria to release energy for active transport
-large vacuole to keep shape
-large surface area to speed up osmosis
-no chloroplasts as it’s underground
Microvilli
-in small intestine
-allow maximum food absorption
